For Russian LLCs and individual entrepreneurs, an RCF may suit repeated supplier payments, new consignments, rent, logistics or materials better than a term loan. A pre-agreed limit avoids a fresh application each time.
Facilities are not available to everyone. Banks assess turnover, trading history, receipt stability, debt, credit history, documents, sector, purpose and whether the limit matches business scale.
Need a credit facility or working capital?
For regular purchases, suppliers, cash flow gaps or seasonal growth, first compare a revolving facility, overdraft, term loan and factoring.
Explore working capital loansAn RCF provides a flexible limit for recurring purchases, suppliers, working capital and short cash flow gaps rather than one-off borrowing.
How a revolving credit facility works
The bank sets a limit available in stages, known as drawdowns or tranches. Repayment restores the available amount fully or partly under the agreement.
For example, from a RUB 5 million limit, a business draws RUB 1.5 million for goods, repays part after sales and uses the released amount for another purchase. This suits regular operating cycles.
How an RCF differs from a term loan
A standard loan generally suits a single purpose: equipment, renovation, a major payment or a fixed amount for a defined term. An RCF is a working limit used as needed.
Term loan
The business receives an amount and repays to a schedule. Suitable for one-off equipment, renovation, a new business line, major purchase or investment project requiring funds upfront.
Revolving credit facility
The business draws within a limit, repays and reuses availability. Useful for regular purchases, working capital, suppliers and recurring gaps.
Non-revolving credit facility
A non-revolving facility also provides staged funding, but repayment does not restore availability. It can suit project stages without repeated reuse.
Consider a term loan for one-off needs, an RCF for recurring expenses and a non-revolving facility for staged project funding without reuse.
When an RCF suits a business
Useful for purchase → sale → revenue → purchase cycles in manufacturing, trade, marketplace sales, food service, transport, construction, clinics, workshops and other sectors with funds constantly circulating.
A facility may be unnecessary for rare, one-off borrowing. For recurring needs it can offer more flexibility than a term loan.
Purposes a credit facility can support
An RCF generally funds current operating needs. Banks require a clear purpose linked to actual business activity.
- goods for resale;
- raw materials, supplies and components;
- seasonal stock replenishment;
- supplier and contractor payments;
- short cash flow gaps;
- orders, agreements and contract fulfilment;
- recurring operating costs;
- working capital for sales growth.
The agreement may restrict use. Identify whether a flexible facility, working capital line, overdraft, factoring or term loan is needed before applying.
What banks check before approval
Banks assess the ability to service balances regularly as well as the requested limit. Stable cash flow makes the facility’s rationale clearer.
Business bank account turnover
Banks review receipts, consistency, seasonality, counterparties, average turnover and limit versus business scale.
Trading history
A short trading history makes a large limit harder to obtain. Banks need evidence of operating activity and cash flow.
Existing debt burden
Loans, leasing, other borrowing, overdrafts, sureties and arrears affect the limit and decision.
Credit history
For LLCs, banks assess the company, managers and owners; for individual entrepreneurs, personal credit history is also relevant.
Purpose of the limit
Specific goods, suppliers, raw materials, supplies, a gap or seasonal preparation are clearer than general business funding.
Why an application may be declined
Rejection often means turnover is unstable or the limit does not fit business scale.
- insufficient business bank account turnover;
- short trading history;
- unstable receipts and strong seasonality;
- high existing debt burden;
- arrears, account restrictions, litigation or tax risks;
- unclear facility purpose;
- limit excessive for current turnover;
- an incomplete document package;
- an unsuitable bank or product.
After rejection, identify the cause: amount, product, turnover, debt, documents, credit history or business profile mismatch before applying elsewhere.
Documents you may need
Requirements depend on the bank, amount, product, borrower status and sector. Basic information supports an initial assessment.
- company or entrepreneur’s Russian Tax ID (INN);
- desired facility limit;
- intended use;
- approximate business bank account turnover;
- existing loan, other borrowing, leasing and overdraft information;
- tax regime and trading history;
- agreements, invoices, orders, suppliers or contracts for specific uses;
- collateral documents for secured options.
Initially, the Russian Tax ID (INN), desired limit, purpose, approximate turnover and debt are often enough. Full documents depend on the bank.
Credit facility or overdraft?
Both support working capital, but operate differently.
Overdraft
An overdraft generally suits short account gaps before imminent receipts, particularly with regular inflows.
Credit line
A credit facility suits wider working capital needs: regular purchases, suppliers, seasonality, orders, stock and recurring demand for a limit.
Factoring
If the issue is deferred buyer payment, factoring may provide funds against receivables before the customer pays.
Need a limit for regular purchases and payments?
Assess turnover, current debt, intended use and a suitable application strategy before seeking an RCF.
Request a preliminary assessmentHow to improve the likelihood of approval
A strong application shows a genuine operating need and capacity to use and service the facility regularly.
1. Avoid inflating the limit
Match the amount to turnover. A limit well above business scale may be reduced or declined.
2. Demonstrate recurring needs
Explain repeated purchases, suppliers, seasonal costs, gaps or operating cycles requiring a facility.
3. Prepare the financial picture
Understand turnover, seasonality, debt, tax regime, trading history and repayment sources.
4. Choose the right product
An overdraft, factoring, term loan or secured finance may suit better than a facility. Product errors may cause rejection.
5. Avoid indiscriminate applications
Repeated unprepared applications may worsen the situation. Assess the profile and select banks where the request is realistic.
